Theresa Ricci was named director of secondary education for the Pennsbury School District by the board of school directors at the public meeting held on June 21. Ricci, who has served as principal at Charles Boehm Middle School in Pennsbury for the past 11 years, will assume this new central office position once a new principal has been selected to lead Charles Boehm.
“Throughout the interview process, numerous Pennsbury stakeholders met with Ms. Ricci and noted her commitment to the district for 21 years, serving in multiple roles,” said Pennsbury superintendent William J. Gretzula, Ed.D. “Throughout that time, Ms. Ricci has attained tremendous success, collaborating on several important initiatives including, but not limited to, character education, the Future Ready 1:1 initiative, numerous curriculum renewal efforts, and the expansion of supports for the academic and mental health needs of all students. I look forward to supporting Ricci’s growth and transition into this new leadership opportunity.”
In 2015, Ricci was named the State Principal of the Year by the Pennsylvania Association of Elementary and Secondary School Principals. Charles Boehm Middle School was recognized the year before as both a State and National School of Character by Character.org in Washington, D.C. Ricci also contributed a chapter to the book Student Discipline: A Prosocial Perspective in 2016.
The director of secondary education will report to the superintendent for the coordination and delivery of programs of teaching and learning and for the effective administration of the district’s secondary school program.
In her new position, Ricci will supervise and evaluate all secondary building principals. She will also manage secondary co-curricular and extra-curricular activities and collaborate with the director of elementary education to ensure the continuity of the district’s K-12 educational programming. In addition, Ricci will collaborate with the departments of Pupil Services, Human Resources, Financial Services, Technology and Facilities.
Ricci holds a certificate in educational leadership from the University of Pennsylvania and is currently working toward her doctorate in educational leadership at Gwynedd Mercy University. She earned her master of science degree in teaching at The College of New Jersey, and a bachelor of arts degree in economics at Boston University.
Prior to assuming the principal’s role at Charles Boehm, Ricci served as assistant principal at Pennwood Middle School in Pennsbury. She previously taught social studies at Pennsbury High School.
