PJAS State Competition

Students from Bensalem Township School District attended the State Competition of the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science at Penn State University, State College

Students from Bensalem Township School District attended the State Competition of the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science held May 20–22 at Penn State University, State College. Thousands of students from all over Pennsylvania presented their scientific research at this annual competition.

21 Bensalem High School students competed, with 12 receiving first place awards. They are: Treesha Brahmbhatt (perfect score), Patrick Le, Brittany Hood, Julia Ting, Shyam Patel, Sarah Farooq, Max Palamarchuk, Noah Brodecki, Kruti Patel, Gavin Hinshaw, Suhani Patel and Jonathan Larbi. The second place winners are: Michelle Rana, Yogesh Patel, Sami Rana, Sumaiya Difaa, Vinay Patel, Love Patel, Deesha Patel, Gideon Tan and Mark Tyler.

Sarah Farooq, Michelle Rana, Brittany Hood and Dylan MacDougall received special recognition for their dedication to PJAS throughout their middle school and high school years.

Four students each received an $8,000 scholarship. Congratulations to: Brittany Hood (Eberly College of Science); Suhani Patel (Eberly College of Science); Michelle Rana (College of Engineering); and Sarah Farooq (College of Earth & Mineral Science).

The BHS team is sponsored by their advisor Mrs. Lisa Tokmajian. Special thanks to Mr. Chris Sterman for serving as a chaperone.

In the middle school division, four Robert K. Shafer Middle School students received first place awards: Danielle Armstrong, Andrew Austria, Kathleen Ho and Jordan Yale. Six students earned second place awards: Jimena Ayala, Jake Dela Cruz, David Larbi, Carina Olivar, Danielle Russell and Grace Senkungu.

Congratulations to Nicolo Scuderi and Josif Collazo for serving in the role of technician for this year’s competition.

The Shafer Middle School students are sponsored by Mrs. Diana Kelly, Erin Conlen, and Jason Cohen.

Five Cecelia Snyder Middle School students attended states. The first place winner is Taylor Hood. Three students received second place awards: Anthony Bibeck, Prem Patel, and Maddie MacDougall. Yashvi Patel received a third place award.
