Conwell-Egan falls in state baseball playoffs

Conwell-Egan saw its baseball season end on Monday with a 4–3 loss to Oley Valley in a PIAA Class 3A baseball game at Archbishop Wood.

Righty Ryan Crowell pitched four strikeout innings for the District 12-champion Eagles (9–12–1) before departing with an injury.

Lefty Gavin Blankenbiller (8–1) struck out nine in a complete-game effort and had a key RBI double for District Three runner-up Oley Valley (15–7).

CEC scored twice in the first. Chris Furey reached on an error and went to third on a single by Crowell. Furey scored on a sacrifice fly by Justin Porter. Two batters later, Brendan Sullivan singled in a run. Sullivan had two hits on the afternoon.

Oley Valley scored off the CEC bullpen to take a 4–2 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning.

In the seventh. Brady Trimble singled with two outs, and Zimmerman followed with an RBI double. The game ended on a groundout. ••
