NextGen Pennsylvania is criticizing U.S. Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick for not signing a House discharge position that would force a vote on a bill that would protect “Dreamers,” illegal immigrants brought to the United States as children by their parents.

Last December, Fitzpatrick was one of 34 House Republicans who asked Speaker Paul Ryan for a vote to protect Dreamers.

NextGen state youth director Jarrett Smith released the following statement:

“Rep. Fitzpatrick is denying a clear opportunity to provide a pathway to citizenship for almost 700,000 Dreamers, abandoning the promise he made in December. In Pennsylvania, Dreamers are our friends and neighbors, and they represent the best our state has to offer. It is time for our lawmakers to take a stand against anti-immigrant threats and protect immigrant families’ fundamental rights. By going back on his word, Rep. Fitzpatrick is failing to protect nearly 5,000 Pennsylvania Dreamers, and we’ll make sure voters in his district remember his inaction in November.”

NextGen was founded by Tom Steyer, a billionaire hedge fund manager. Steyer is funding Democratic efforts to win the House so they can impeach President Donald Trump. ••
