There’s something infinitely rewarding about helping another person, especially those battling some of life’s biggest struggles. For those selfless individuals who thrive on making the day of a cancer patient or lonely senior citizen just a little bit brighter, Always Best Care has the perfect opportunity.

On March 13, the in-home senior services company will host a job fair from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at its Bucks County offices located at 668 Woodbourne Road, Suites 105 and 106 in Langhorne. Area residents seeking positions as caregivers, home health aids or CNAs (certified nursing assistants) are encouraged to attend.

“We have immediate openings for people who are caregivers or those who want to train to become caregivers,” said Tony Belardino, director of marketing and community outreach for Always Best Care. “If you are already a licensed certified nursing assistant or want to be trained to become a caregiver, we’d like to talk with you.”

Always Best Care, which provides in-home care and free assisted living placement services, opened its doors in Bristol in July 2010 and has since expanded throughout Lower Bucks and Delaware counties, Philadelphia and the Main Line. Currently, the company employs more than 1,000 caregivers throughout its various locations and, according to Belardino, the majority have been there from the beginning.

At the March 13 job fair, both full- and part-time employment opportunities at each location will be available, with Belardino and other staff members present to discuss the requirements and overall role of a caregiver, which is both companion and personal in nature.

Caregivers work with Alzheimer’s, dementia and cancer patients, assisting them with dressing, bathing, grooming, incontinence care, light housekeeping, escort/transportation, errands, grocery shopping and meal preparation, laundry and medication reminders.

While candidates should have some caregiving experience, if hired, they will participate in a new hire orientation. During this process, a field trainer will accompany them during their first few patient visits for quality assurance.

“We want to make sure the clients and caregivers are comfortable,” Belardino said. “All of our team members and caregivers receive comprehensive training before being assigned to a care plan.”

The field trainer will offer advice and constructive feedback, as well as make sure the caregiver is a match for the client. If not, Always Best Care will find a more suitable match.

After getting a sense of what their day-to-day role would entail, job fair attendees can learn about the compensation packages offered by Always Best Care. In addition to medical, dental and vision insurance plans and ample vacation time, after one year, employees are eligible for a 401K with a company match.

For those who think the company and role of a caregiver sound like a good fit, Belardino offered some simple advice for potential job fair attendees.

“Just come polished,” he said. “We’re looking for a quality caregiver.”

In other words, dress the part of a professional interviewee and be prepared to make a solid first impression. Job seekers should bring a current resume outlining their experience as it pertains to caregiving, and be ready to discuss their passion for the field. If Belardino thinks a candidate has potential, an in-depth follow up interview will be scheduled. Candidates should be at least 18 years old and available to work weekends and holidays.

So why should someone consider a career with Always Best Care?

“We’re striving to be a premier employer,” Belardino said.

In addition to a competitive compensation package, employees can take advantage of simple yet convenient perks, such as direct deposit, and company-wide events like the annual night out at the zoo, which families are invited to attend.

“We’re trying to do everything to make the caregiver’s life easier,” he said. ••
