Bowling alleys aren’t just for knocking down pins anymore. From laser tag and arcade games to creative cocktails and larger-than-life meals, they’ve come a long way from being the go-to pizza party location for childhood birthdays. Recently, Feasterville’s Brunswick Zone XL received a complete overhaul to bring it into the 21st century of bowling entertainment. On Saturday, Oct. 21, community members young and old enjoyed the grand opening of the newly dubbed Bowlero, located at 100 E. Street Road, featuring free games and an appearance by NFL legend and former Philadelphia Eagle Brian Westbrook.

With this being the first Bowlero location in Pennsylvania, Bucks County has certainly earned some bragging rights. The creation of Bowlero originated in Texas, and has since become a national brand with locations in New York, New Jersey, California, Arizona, Colorado, Florida and more. Bowlero belongs to the larger umbrella of Bowlmor AMF, which acquired Brunswick in 2014.

According to Samantha Bevacqua, director of brand management at Bowlmor AMF, the company’s main initiative is to make bowling alleys a one-stop entertainment destination.

“The inspiration behind the conversation is the idea of elevating America’s favorite pastime to exceed our customer’s assumptions about bowling,” she said.

So far, Bowlero Feasterville is doing just that. Newly renovated, the 62,000-square-foot location features 48 blacklight bowling lanes, comfortable laneside lounge seating and high-definition video walls at the end of each lane playing everything from live sports to music videos and classic movies.

At the grand opening, guests were able to enjoy the state-of-the-art lanes alongside Brian Westbrook. When approached by Bowlmor AMF about hosting the event, he said it was a no brainer.

“I played in Philadelphia for eight years. Every time I am in the city, it feels like I am among my family because of the love the city has shown me. If I can give back and spend time with my friends and fans in Philly, I am always open to it,” Westbrook said. “And I love bowling!”

After a free round of bowling, guests enjoyed laser tag and an arcade packed with 45 games, including Giant Pac Man and Dark Escape, four billiard tables and corn hole toss. They were sure to work up an appetite after exerting so much energy, and Bowlero was prepared to go above and beyond their tastebuds’ needs.

“Bowling is a fun, interactive group activity, and we wanted to create larger than life menu items to match,” Bevacqua said. “Our culinary team is always coming out with inventive food and drinks that consumers love, but with a special Bowlero twist to make that perfect Insta-moment.”

Bowlero prides itself on a menu of oversized items, which includes the nationally-recognized Behemoth Burger, a 5-pound, 14-inch round party burger that’s been named one of America’s top burgers by USA Today.

In addition to the outrageous food items, guests could stop by the new sports bar for specialty cocktails like the Mad Mai Tai, Old-School Moscow Mule and the Dunk Tank, a fishbowl cocktail that’s perfect for sharing with friends.

While sipping on drinks and attempting the impossible feat of finishing a Behemoth Burger, guests were also able to take in the overall atmosphere of the space. Flaunting a retro-chic design, Bowlero has everything from classic cars on display to vintage light fixtures and quirky graphics on the walls.

So will this modern spin on traditional bowling become the new norm? According to Bevacqua, the answer is yes.

“We’re seeing that our consumers are looking for more than just bowling. By adding new features, new menus and bowling upgrades, we’re giving consumers plenty of reasons to come to Bowlero and stay longer,” she said. “Bowling has always been a fun entertainment option, Bowlero is here to amplify the experience.” ••
