U.S. Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-8th dist.) has been named a 2017 Champion of Health Care Innovation by the American Life Sciences Innovation Council for his efforts to protect Medicare and promote quality care for seniors.

Local politician honored: U.S. Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick was recently named a 2017 Champion of Health Care Innovation.

“I’m honored to be recognized for supporting innovation in healthcare that means faster approval, increased treatments and better health outcomes,” Fitzpatrick said. “I’m committed to putting partisan politics aside and standing up for Medicare and Medicare Part B coverage for our seniors in Congress.”

Attending the presentation were representatives from Life Sciences Pennsylvania, the Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter of the National Hemophilia Foundation and the Epilepsy Foundation of Eastern Pennsylvania.

“In his short time in the House of Representatives, Congressman Fitzpatrick has taken a great interest in causes crucial to the epilepsy community,” said Elizabeth Beil, president and CEO of the Epilepsy Foundation of Eastern Pennsylvania, an advocacy group that serves individuals and families affected by epilepsy/seizure disorders. “Patient access to medicines is critical, and we are fortunate to have Congressman Fitzpatrick as an advocate for the 110,000 patients in Eastern Pennsylvania with epilepsy.”

The American Life Sciences Innovation Council is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization focused on the key factors that drive life science innovation: strong intellectual property protection; adequate reimbursement driven by market forces; unfettered collaboration with basic science partners; a transparent and predictable regulatory environment; and access to capital.
