Summer may be coming to an end, but the Playwicki Farm Foundation is making sure locals get one last splash of fun before it’s over. On Sept. 10 at the Dolphin Swim Club, the foundation will host A Splash for Playwicki featuring prizes, entertainment, an NFL game and the chance to experience local food and spirits as part of A Taste for Playwicki.

The dream team: Feasterville’s Naked Brewing Company will feature a selection of fine craft beers at the Splash for Playwicki event. For six years, adults have been able to partake in A Taste for Playwicki, an annual event held at Playwicki Farm where locals can try food, wine and beer from local restaurants, wineries and breweries. This year, Rose McMenamin, vice president of the Playwicki Farm Foundation, wanted to do something different. She wanted locals of all ages to be included in a day of family fun, while still holding onto the Taste for Playwicki tradition.

A Splash for Playwicki will kick off at noon, and attendees of all ages can enjoy games, raffles and a heated swimming pool throughout the day. At 1 p.m., a Jumbotron will show the NFL game pitting the Philadelphia Eagles against the Washington Redskins.

From 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., guests 21 and over can enjoy the Taste for Playwicki they’ve come to know and love. Foods will be prepared and served by the culinary staffs of some of the finest restaurants in the area. A beer and wine garden will feature samples from local wineries such as Mitchell & Mitchell Wine, and breweries including Moss Mill Brewing, which is slated to open in November, and Naked Brewery. In addition, Wit or Witout will be serving Philly cheesesteaks throughout the event. A full list of participating restaurants will be announced by Sept. 3.

Attendees can also enjoy a live concert performance at 4:30 p.m. from Kirko, a Bucks County-based rock band consisting of brothers Kevin, Chris and Scott Kirk.

All proceeds from A Splash for Playwicki will support events and improvements at the historic 110-acre Playwicki Farm, located at 2250 Bridgetown Pike in Feasterville. According to McMenamin, the funds raised at the event will be put toward the completion of the farm’s kitchen, a project that has been five years in the making.

“It was a hole in the ground,” she reflected.

Over the summer, the kitchen finally started to take shape as the electrical and plumbing work was completed. But it still needs some finishing touches, including appliances, to make it a true farmhouse kitchen. Thanks to the support of local sponsors, McMenamin sees the end of the project in sight.

Since talk of the new kitchen first began five years ago, Playwicki has received several generous donations, including $6,000 from Wheelabrator Technologies, $10,000 from The Lower Southampton Industrial Development Authority, $6,000 from The Rotary Club of Feasterville, and $1,000 from the Ukrainian Selfreliance Federal Credit Union.

“It’s really a jewel to our township,” she said of the farm. ••
