Human and animal hearts alike were broken in May when the Langhorne Rotary Club’s annual Pet and Family Fun Day was postponed due to inclement weather. But everything happens for a reason. The day of family fun has been rescheduled for Saturday, Aug. 26, which just happens to be National Dog Day. What better way to celebrate your furry companion than a day of activities for all ages…and breeds?
Taking place at the Mayor’s Playground, located at the intersection of Routes 213 and 413 in the heart of Langhorne, the seventh annual Pet and Family Fun Day will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., so guests are welcome to come and go as they please during that timeframe.
According to Langhorne Rotary Club’s Ward McMasters, last year’s event attracted approximately 1,000 guests, and he’s expecting an even larger turnout this year thanks to an increase in kid-friendly activities, all of which are free.
“Families aren’t gouged with extra costs,” he said.
Throughout the day, kids can enjoy pony rides, a petting zoo where they can feed the animals and an exotic animal show. In addition, a new Children’s Bounce Zone will be featured this year thanks to the support of sponsors including J inflatables, Neshaminy Kids Club Before & After School Program/Summer Camps, KE Seifert Inc. and Neshaminy Federation of Teachers.
“It’s a family affair for all ages,” McMasters said. “It’s a nice outing.”
More than 70 vendors will be present featuring items and services for all types of pets. A “Meet the Vet” booth will be set up where guests can get their questions answered from a local veterinarian and receive a free consultation for their pets.
The Langhorne Rotary Club will raffle off several baskets filled with pet-related items, all of which were donated by its members. As one of the primary humanitarian projects hosted by the Rotary Club each year, the proceeds from the raffle are one of its main sources of income.
As always, guests are welcome to bring pets of all kinds to join in the fun.
“It’s more dogs than you’ll ever see in your life,” McMasters said. ••
