The Lower Southampton Republican Committee recently announced its selection of a new chairman, Nick Border, and vice chairwoman, Jennifer Yori.

For more than eight years, Border served as a township and county-level committeeman in the West 2 District surrounding Russell Elliot Memorial Park. A veteran of the United States Army National Guard, he hopes to bring leadership, civic and management skills to his new role. In addition, Border served on the Lower Southampton Environmental Advisory Committee, the Planning Committee and the Zoning Board.

Yori has been a committeewoman for 17 years in the East 3 District surrounding Tawanka Elementary School. She has also served Lower Southampton as a tax collector for more than 20 years. She has experience in the banking industry, and is a member of the Bucks County Republican Committee executive committee.

The Lower Southampton GOP also announced the endorsement of Yori, who is running for re-election as tax collector, and several other candidates who are running in the May 16 primary.

The endorsed candidates include:

• Robert DeBias, running for magisterial judge. He serves as vice chairman of the zoning board in Lower Southampton Township and is a 17-year member, and has been practicing law for the past 39 years. He earned a juris doctor degree from the Temple University School of Law in 1977, and was admitted to the Bar of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania the same year.

• Lower Southampton Township Supervisor Joseph McFadden, who is running for re-election. McFadden has been serving in his post since 2008. A retired major in the United States Air Force after 26 years of service, he is captain and dive team coordinator for the Lower Southampton Fire Department, helping to respond to some 150 emergency service calls per year. McFadden’s credentials also include executive committee member of the Bucks County Association of Township Officials and chairman of the Southwestern Bucks County Solid Waste Advisory Committee.

• Marketing representative Tracy Freels, who is running for township auditor. Freels serves as committeewoman in the Lower Southampton East 4 District and is active in the national and Pennsylvania Federation of Republican Women. She’s also treasurer of the Friends of Lower Southampton Township and financial secretary and member of the executive board of the Feasterville Business Association.

• Educator Cyndie Bowman, who is running for Neshaminy School Board. Bowman has more than 10 years of elementary education experience and has worked as a college adjunct instructor for the same length of time. She is also mother of three children, all students in the Neshaminy School District. ••
