Brian Fitzpatrick, the Republican nominee in the 8th Congressional District, released a statement regarding the largest transfer of prisoners from Guantanamo Bay detention facility in its 14-year history.
“As a former FBI Supervisory Special Agent tasked with combating terrorism and keeping Americans safe, it’s unbelievable that, at a time when threats to our homeland are at an all-time high, this administration continues to make foreign policy decisions based on keeping campaign promises, not keeping us secure,” he said.
“This week’s transfer of 15 Guantanamo Bay terrorists back to the Middle East shows a fundamental lack of seriousness about combating the terror threat we face and the continued politicization of our national security agenda. We already know how this plays out: Earlier this year, the Pentagon reported to Congress that at least a dozen former Guantanamo inmates were responsible for the deaths of Americans overseas — including a female American aid worker in Afghanistan. In all, intelligence reports show that nearly 30 percent of those released from Guantanamo Bay are either confirmed or suspected of reengaging with terrorism.”

Meanwhile, ConservAmerica endorsed Fitzpatrick over his Democratic opponent, state Rep. Steve Santarsiero.
“We believe Brian embodies the great Republican legacy of conservation,” said Rob Sisson, president of ConservAmerica. “Brian supports the Land and Water Conservation Fund, public and local land conservation, and is committed to reducing carbon emissions in a responsible manner.”
Fitzpatrick opposes a bid by Elcon to build a liquid waste treatment plant along the Delaware River in Falls Township. He’s also joined residents in demanding federal action to address groundwater contamination surrounding the former Naval Air Warfare Center in Warminster and the former Naval Air Station-Joint Reserve Base Willow Grove in Horsham.
If elected, Fitzpatrick has indicated he would join the Climate Solutions Caucus — a bipartisan group aimed at exploring policy options that address the impacts, causes and challenges of the changing climate.
“By sending Brian Fitzpatrick to Washington, D.C., the voters of the 8th District will help make environmental stewardship a non-partisan priority again,” Sisson said.
