WirePOLITICS: Warren, Duome praised for signing term limits pledge

Tom Waring, the Wire

U.S. Term Limits is praising Andrew Warren and Marc Duome, Republican candidates in the 8th Congressional District, for signing its congressional term limits pledge.

USTL President Philip Blumel said of Warren, “We applaud Andrew Warren for having the courage to make congressional term limits a top priority of his campaign. Warren’s commitment to this issue shows that he’s serious about rooting out corruption and restoring citizen governance to Washington, D.C.”

Blumel commented on Duome’s pledge, saying, “We applaud Marc Duome for his commitment to the principles of our founding fathers and for the courage to stand up to the Washington elite and make congressional term limits a top priority of his campaign.“Duome’s support of term limits shows that we still have candidates out there that recognize there is a need for rotation in office and that Congress should be filled with citizen legislators, not career politicians who have lost sight of what their constituents need.”

The U.S. Term Limits Amendment Pledge is provided to every announced candidate for federal office. It reads, “I pledge that as a member of Congress I will cosponsor and vote for the U.S. Term Limits amendment of three (3) House terms and two (2) Senate terms and no longer limit.”

The U.S. Term Limits Constitutional Amendment has been introduced in both the U.S. Senate by Sen. David Vitter, a Louisiana Republican, and the House of Representatives, by Rep. Matt Salmon, an Arizona Republican.

According to a nationwide poll on term limits conducted by Gallup, 75 percent of Americans support congressional term limits.

The term limits amendment bills would require a two-thirds majority in the House and Senate, and ratification by 38 states in order to become part of the constitution.

Brian Fitzpatrick is also seeking the Republican nomination.
