The two Democratic candidates in the 8th Congressional District last week debuted their first television campaign commercials.

Shaughnessy Naughton

Shaughnessy Naughton released “Our Families,” which will air on Philadelphia broadcast and cable across the district. Naughton’s ad campaign will run through the Democratic primary on April 26.

“Voters are looking for a strong progressive candidate who will protect Planned Parenthood funding so more women can get cancer screenings and who will ban fracking in the Delaware River Basin,“ said Naughton campaign manager Erik Polyak. “There is only one candidate who fits that bill, Shaughnessy Naughton.”

In the spot, Naughton says, “For years, I was a laboratory chemist, developing drugs to fight deadly diseases. As a scientist, I know there’s more that Washington can
do to help families.

I’m running for Congress to protect Planned Parenthood funding so more women get cancer screenings and treatment…to pass a ban on fracking in the Delaware River Basin to preserve our clean water, and to always protect Medicare and Social Security.”

State Rep. Steve Santarsiero unveiled “Wake Up.”

The new ad chronicles Santarsiero’s journey from a lawyer to high school teacher, then details his support of progressive causes in Harrisburg.

“Steve Santarsiero is a proven, progressive leader with a track record of getting results for the people of Pennsylvania,” said campaign manager Eric Goldman. “As a state representative, Steve has led the charge to enact universal background checks on gun purchases, has earned a 100-percent rating from Planned Parenthood and has stood up against fracking and climate change.
