Last night the Bucks County Republican Committee endorsed Brian Fitzpatrick in the 8th Congressional District.
Fitzpatrick is a retired FBI agent and younger brother of Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick, who is honoring a pledge of serving no more than four two-year terms.
Other GOP candidates are former Bucks County Commissioner Andy Warren, attorney Dean Malik and psychologist Marc Duome.
The initial frontrunner was state Rep. Scott Petri, but Brian Fitzpatrick’s entry into the race changed the dynamics. Petri dropped out of the race in time for him to file for re-election to the state House of Representatives.
A party official said there were about 100 members of an executive committee that made the endorsement, and that the vote was “almost unanimous.”
Democratic candidates are state Rep. Steve Santarsiero and Shaughnessy Naughton, a scientist and owner of a family publishing business.
The district consists of all of Bucks County and portions of Montgomery County.
