State Rep. Steve Santarsiero, a Democratic candidate in the 8th Congressional District, received the endorsement of the Bucks County Democratic Party in a show of hands at a Jan. 30 meeting at Richboro Middle School.
Later, he and supporters celebrated at Rose Bank Winery in Newtown.
Shaughnessy Naughton is also seeking the Democratic nomination in the April 26 primary.
Republican Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick is not seeking another term.
“I am grateful for your support. I’m humbled by it,” Santarsiero said.
Earlier, Santarsiero earned the endorsement of the Montgomery County Democratic Party.
“I am proud to be the Democratic Party’s endorsed candidate for Congress in Pennsylvania’s 8th Congressional District,” he said. “I’ve built a record as a proven progressive as a state representative standing up to the NRA by authoring our state’s universal background check bill, fighting for women’s reproductive rights by earning a 100 percent rating from Planned Parenthood and introducing legislation to keep good-paying Pennsylvanian jobs here at home. I am ready to continue the fight for our shared Democratic values in Congress.”
In a speech after receiving the Bucks endorsement, he put a focus on gun safety legislation, early childhood education, the rising cost of college tuition, good-paying jobs and civil rights.
“Whether we have another Fitzpatrick or Petri come November, we have to win the 8th Congressional District,” he said.
