WirePOLITICS: Santarsiero gains support from major Democratic organizations

Tom Waring, the Wire

State Rep. Steve Santarsiero, a Democratic candidate in the 8th Congressional District, has the support of 10 major Democratic organizations across the district.

Those organizations are the Bensalem Democratic Organization, Bristol Township Democratic Committee, Concerned Democrats of Springfield Township, Doylestown Democratic Committee, Falls Township Democratic Party, Lower Makefield Township Democratic Committee, Middletown Democratic Party, Newtown Democrats, Pennridge Democrats and Warrington Democrats Organization.

“I started my political involvement as a Democratic committeeperson here in Bucks County,” Santarsiero said, “So it means a lot to me to have the support of these organizations for our campaign. I know that they are the backbone of our party and I’m looking forward to working together to win in 2016.”

Santarsiero faces Shaughnessy Naughton in the Democratic congressional primary.

Santarsiero’s campaign said he is on track to lock up the votes necessary to win the county endorsement months before the endorsement meeting takes place.

Earlier, the campaign announced the endorsement of 11 labor organizations, former congressional nominees Kathy Boockvar and Kevin Strouse and U.S. Rep. Bob Brady, Bucks County Commissioner Diane Marseglia and Montgomery County Commissioner Josh Shapiro.

Santarsiero represents Newtown and Yardley in the General Assembly. He’s worked as a lawyer and Bensalem High school teacher, and served as Lower Makefield Township supervisor. He was elected to the state House in 2008.

Santarsiero and his wife, Ronni, have three children, Nancy, Billy and Johnny.

The 8th Congressional District consists of all of Bucks County and a small portion of Montgomery County.

Former Bucks County Commissioner Andy Warren is seeking the Republican nomination. Other rumored candidates include state Rep. Scott Petri and Tom Manion, a retired businessman and Marine Corps colonel who ran for the seat in 2008. Republican Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick is not seeking another term.
