Lower Moreland begins work on Valley Center Park trail

Matt Schickling, the Wire

Work began at the end of May for an environmental trail to be put in at Valley Center Park in Lower Moreland to connect it to the woodlands surrounding the playground and field.

The trail is going to be about one mile and is expected to be completed by the end of June. There will be an ADA-accessible limestone path at the beginning of the trail, which goes to a lookout point with a bench. The rest of the trail is made with woodchips and is not ADA accessible.

“We’ll have trail markers and benches along the trail,” Assistant Township Manager Loreen Montagnon said. “We’re in the process of getting together some educational signage talking about the wetlands and indigenous species.”

Residents reported seeing a family of foxes, deer, various birds and even a coyote wandering the woods.

There will be a 100-foot boardwalk over the wetlands, so that people can access some of the better nature sites.

“It was muddy, and something definitely has to be put there,” Montagnon said.

Lower Moreland officials expect the project to be completed by the end of June, and possibly, as early as June 15.
