As a way to help local residents prevent their personal financial information from getting into the wrong hands, state Rep. Gene DiGirolamo will host his annual shredder event on Saturday, April 25.
The event will take place in the parking lot of his district office, at 2424 Bristol Road in Bensalem, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Residents can drop off documents at the shredder.
“So many times, people are keeping documentation because they’re not quite sure what to do with it, and for good reason,” DiGirolamo said. “Documents with Social Security numbers, credit card statements, medical information and other information with names and addresses can be a gold mine for identity thieves, and that’s why it is so important to ensure that this paperwork is securely destroyed. Shredder events like these help people get rid of old and unnecessary paperwork that is cluttering their homes.”
No businesses are permitted to participate.

Meanwhile, state Rep. Tina Davis will also be sponsoring a free community shredding event on Saturday, April 25, for the safe disposal of unwanted, confidential documents.
The event will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Ben Franklin Middle School, 6403 Mill Creek Road in Levittown.
“It’s a convenient way to safely dispose of confidential documents and prevent fraud and identity theft,” Davis said. “The shredding event will be held rain or shine, and no tax money will be spent for this service.”
Common types of unwanted items that should be shredded include credit card statements and applications, bank statements, canceled checks, income tax information, insurance records and retirement or pension fund information.
“The event is free for residents in the 141st Legislative District, and documents will be shredded on-site and recycled by bonded and uniformed personnel,” Davis said. “The event is for personal documents only.”
A limit of five boxes or bags per person is requested. No businesses are permitted to participate.
