State Rep. Tina Davis announced that fire departments and ambulance and rescue squads serving the 141st Legislative District are receiving state grants totaling almost $100,000.
“Our first responders — who give so much time and effort to their communities — richly deserve this financial assistance,” Davis said. “The departments are at the essence of community safety.”
Davis, a member of the House Gaming Oversight Committee, said funding for the Fire Company and Volunteer Ambulance Service Grant Program is generated from slot machine proceeds.
Bucks County recipients include Bristol Township Fire District, $13,176; Croydon Fire Co. №1, $14,284; Edgely Fire Co. №1, $14,007; Levittown-Fairless Hills Rescue Squad, $7,444; Penndel Fire Co. №1, $14,284; Penndel-Middletown Emergency Squad, $7,444;
Third District Fire Co. 1, Bristol, $14,000; and William Penn Fire Co., Hulmeville, $14,284.
Grants can be used toward repairing, building or renovating facilities, purchasing new equipment and staff training, as well as repaying debt related to equipment purchases, facilities and their maintenance.
Rep. Scott Petri also announced area fire and emergency medical services providers that are being awarded about $50,000 in state grants through the 2014–15 Fire Company and Volunteer Ambulance Service Grant Program.
All fire companies and volunteer ambulance services and rescue squads were eligible to apply for a share of $30 million in state grants for training and certification of members, to construct or renovate facilities, to purchase or repair fixtures and equipment or to reduce debt.
“Communities throughout Pennsylvania and right here in Bucks County rely on volunteer emergency services personnel to be there when emergencies occur,” Petri said. “This grant funding enables these volunteer organizations to have the facilities, equipment and training they need to ensure they will be there to assist us when we need them.”
The following volunteer fire and EMS providers in the 178th Legislative District will be receiving state grants: Lingohocken Fire Co. ($14,300), New Hope Eagle Fire Co. ($13,200), Northampton Township Volunteer Fire Co. ($14,000) and Trihampton Rescue Squad ($7,445).
The grant program is funded solely from state gaming proceeds.
