The Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas chose Valerie Arkoosh to fill the seat of former Commissioner Leslie Richards on Jan. 28. Richards resigned her position to take a job with the administration of Gov. Tom Wolf as secretary of transportation.
Arkoosh is currently a resident of Springfield Township. She previously worked with the Richards-Shapiro transition team in 2011, where she was co-chairwoman of the Health and Human Services Subcommittee.
Arkoosh also served as chair of the Montgomery County Board of Health, until she resigned to seek the 2014 Democratic nomination for the 13th Congressional District seat, now occupied by Brendan Boyle.
“I believe Val’s experience and dedication will help us build on the progress we have made for Montgomery County,” Commissioners Chairman Josh Shapiro said in a statement. “Her efforts helped craft many of the transformative changes we have made during our administration.”
Arkoosh was sworn in on Jan. 29. She will run for a full four-year term this year.
