Earlier today, the campaign of Shaughnessy Naughton announced that EMILY’s List, the largest PAC focusing on female politicians in the U.S, had put her “on the list.”

EMILY’s List President Stephanie Schriock attributed Naughton’s background as a former breast cancer researcher and publisher for the decision.

“With her unique background as both a scientist and successful small business owner in a tough economic climate, Shaughnessy will tirelessly work on commonsense solutions to the challenges facing women and families,” Schriock said in a release from EMILY’s List. “And the EMILY’s List community — now three million members strong — is excited to help her break a glass ceiling and become the first woman elected to represent Pennsylvania’s Eighth Congressional District.”

In a statement, Naughton said that her prioritization of progressive values during the campaign thus far made her “proud to have the backing of EMILY’s List because it means that people are really starting to take notice.”

“We need to be focused on creating jobs, growing the economy, and reducing the budget deficit — not turning back the clock on women’s rights,” Naughton said in a press release. “I’m running for Congress because I know that we need to turn our country in a better direction, and I am thrilled to have the support of EMILY’s List to get the job done.”

Naughton, who resides in Point Pleasant, will face Bensalem resident and former CIA officer and Army Ranger Kevin Strouse in the Democratic primary next May. Both hope to unseat incumbent Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick (R-Bucks) next November.

Earlier in the week, Strouse received what is perhaps one of his most important endorsements, to date, as well.
