This post is part of The Upd8, the Midweek Wire’s new blog devoted entirely to coverage of Pennsylvania’s 8th congressional district.
The most recent round of endorsements have come in for PA-8’s Democratic candidates, with Kevin Strouse and Shaughnessy Naughton both racking up a labor endorsement.
The International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers (IFPTE) endorsed Strouse, while the Ironworkers Local Union 401 endorsed Naughton. IFPTE’s backing marks the third labor endorsement for Strouse. The AFL-CIO affiliate is Naughton’s first labor endorsement, and she has landed endorsements from two women’s groups.
The IFPTE’s Local 3 president, John Garrity, issued a statement describing Strouse as the “perfect candidate for the working people,” while the business manager for the Ironworkers 401, Joseph J. Dougherty, called Naughton a “real champion” for “working men and women in Bucks and Montgomery Counties.”
Both candidates will face off in May, and the winner of the primary will run against Republican incumbent Mike Fitzpatrick in November.
